  • The French and Indian War

    The French and Indian War
    The French and Indian War was fight between the French & Indians with Britain/Indians/Colonies from control over the Ohio River Valley. The war was caused because both countries wanted the natural resources found their. The colonies fought for Britain & the Indians during this war. As a result, the colonists were taxed more after the war. The Proclamation Line was also created, which limited the colonies movement west, preventing war with the Indians.
  • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act
    The Sugar Act was an act that taxed the colonies molasses and sugar that they imported.The Sugar Act was caused because Britain had to pay for the French and Indian War along with maintaining their standing army in North America. In response the patriots formed secret societies and helped protests, boycotts, and riots.While the loyalists payed these taxes to support Britain. Britain soon got rid of these 2 acts and made the Declaratory Act which only allowed Britain to make the rules and laws.

    The Stamp Act was an act that taxed the colonies on stamps when buying paper products.The Stamp Act was caused because Britain had to pay for the French and Indian War along with maintaining their standing army in North America. In response the patriots formed secret societies and helped protests, boycotts, and riots.While the loyalists payed these taxes to support Britain. Britain soon got rid of these 2 acts and made the Declaratory Act which only allowed Britain to make the rules and laws.

    The Townshend Acts
    The Townshend Acts were acts were taxes placed taxes on imported glass, lead, paints, papers, and tea.Britain needed the revenue to pay for military expenses and governors salaries. In response to this act women made clothing and other goods at home. Patriots wrote letters of protest and formed Sons of Liberty to attack tax collectors homes. While loyalists made for these goods to support Britain. Due to these protest Britain sent more troops to the colonies and used writs to stop smugglers.
  • The Boston Massacre

    The Boston Massacre
    The Boston Massacre was the rioting and protesting of colonists which lead to the killing of 5 colonists. This happened because patriots were rioting by throwing rocks & snowballs at British troops outside of the Custums House who opened fire. Loyalists responded by siding with the troops. In response to this event Britain removed the troops from Boston & held a trial for 8 of them. Paul Revere's engraving of this event was significant because it got more people to join the patriots.
  • The Boston Tea Party

    The Boston Tea Party
    The Boston Tea party was the protest in which 50 sons of liberty members dumped tea into the Boston Harbor. It was caused because Britain repealed the Townshend Acts & kept a tax on tea to show the colonists the power they had. The Sons of Liberty dressed up as Indians and dumped 342 crates of tea into the Boston Harbor. The loyalists were upset at the patriots action against Britain. In response to this protest Britain shut down the Boston Harbor and sent more soldiers to the colonies.
  • The Intolerable Act

    The Intolerable Act
    The Intolerable Act was a new set of laws placed on colonists to punish them for the Boston Tea party. The cause for this act was to punish the people of Boston Massachusetts for the damage they caused during the Boston Tea Party. This angered the patriots and forced them to hold a meeting in Philadelphia to discuss what to do. In response to this act some loyalists became less loyal and other started helping the patriots and people of Boston.
  • The First Continental Congress

    The First Continental Congress
    The First Continental Congress was a meeting of both patriot & loyalist delegates brought to together to discuss current events. This meeting was caused because colonies were getting worried that Britain would place an act on other colonies as they did to Boston Massachusetts. Patriots responded by organizing militas. Loyalists would have responded to this event by wanting to reason with Britain. While Britain responds to this event by ordering more troops to seize the colonial milita weapons.
