The French and Indian War ends with the Treaty of Paris
The Treaty of Paris was signed in 1763, and it ended The French and Indian War. The British were successful in driving the French out of North America, and they gained all French colonies in the North America. -
Sugar Act
The Sugar Act was put into place to actually collect taxes from the colonists from the Molasses Act. The Parliament cut the taxes from the Molasses Act in half and became more strict on collecting the taxes on molasses and rum, hoping to actually collect the taxes. The colonists reacted by smuggling molasses and rum. -
Stamp Act
The Stamp Act is put into place. The British place taxes on all paper items, such as legal documents, licenses, playing cards, etc. The colonists react by boycotting British goods, and protesting. -
Declaratory Act
The Declaratory Act was an act placed to repeal the Stamp Act. The Stamp Act was hurting Bristish merchants economically because the colonists boycotted. This outraged some colonists because it hinted that there would be more taxes to come. -
Townshend Acts
The Townshend Act was placed to help collect revenue from the British colonies to help pay governors and judges. The colonists protested this act. -
Boston Massacre
The Boston Massacre is where British soldiers fired into a group of Bostonians, killing five of them, injuring others. The colonists were taunting the soldiers as well as throwing objects at them. -
Tea Act
The Tea Act was a tax placed on tea, to get rid of surplus of tea. The colonists smuggled tea, and held protests such as the Boston Tea Party. -
Boston Tea Party
Angry with the Tea Act, colonists disguised themselves and boarded British ships. They dumped all the tea into the Boston Harbor. -
Intolerable Acts
The Intolerable Acts were placed to punish Boston for the Boston Tea Party. The harbor closed, meetings became illegal, and military ruled in the colony until they paid off the tea. The colonists reacted by wanting to go against Britain. -
