Evaluation Question 3: What have you learned from your audience feedback?

  • Planning the Music Video - Secondary Research

Finding out that EDM fans are visual consumers helped us decide to make a narrative music video, as they'll understand a more visual storyline.
  • Planning the Digipak - Secondary Research

As I found EDM fans are more interested in EDM music in general than the artist, I used minimal info on the artist in the digipak to not lose their attention. The photos of the artist on the digipak were influenced by this: the largest audience of EDM fans are 18 to 24’s, so photos of the artist used feature him wearing a brand (the target audience can identify with him). Secondly, they are often of a lower education level, so is shot in front of a brick wall with graffiti (urban, less wealthy)
  • Planning the Website - Secondary Research

I found that EDM fans are more active in their social media usage, so it was crucial for my artist’s website to have links to social media sites. As mentioned with planning the digipak, the costume and location of the artist for the photoshoot was also relevant (read mentioned).
  • Planning the Music Video - Primary Research

Conducting interviews of our target audience about what they expect from the song we chose provided us with some ideas for what we should use in our music video. These included elements of nature, which we showed with the greenery in the cemetery, or losing something and death, shown with the death of the child.
  • Photoshoot

Today was the photoshoot for Turner Fox, photos to be used on the digipak and the website.
  • Planning the Digipak - Primary Research

I created an online survey, and received answers that I implemented into my digipak. An example of this include a dark/bright colour contrast, shown through bright colours of sunshine and darker shadowy areas of the cemetery, and contrasts in font colour. Another example of what the audience wanted would be minimalism, which I showed through sticking to a colour scheme and using similar photos for panels, such as two different photos of the artist from the same photoshoot.
  • Digipak Design

Today I drew up a net for my digipak before I started creating it on Photoshop.

  • Started using Photoshop

I started creating my digipak on Photoshop.
  • Improving the Website

On the 25th I created an online survey about my artist's website, and found that the main issue my audience had with it was the colour of the font on the "Contact" page, which hindered their ability to read the text. I then changed this to a darker shade to fix this.
  • Improving the Music Video

I interviewed some of the target audience after showing them the transitions cut. One of the issues they said was that they didn’t understand the story, which was important. To fix this, we added in more shots of the mother and daughter interacting to show that they were two people rather than what the audience thought, which was that the girl was the woman’s “inner child”. This also fixed the other main issue, as we replaced some footage of the cemetery, which they felt there was too much of.
  • Finished First Draft of Digipak

Today I finished the first draft of my digipak.
  • Improving the Digipak

I conducted interviews with some of the target audience about my first draft of the digipak. Some of the things they said were useful, and I made changes such as adding a spine, which I had previously forgotten about, and changing font colours that were more difficult to see on top of the photos so that they were easier to read. I feel this greatly benefitted the final digipak.
