  • Germany Invades Poland and Allies declare war on Germany

    Marks the start of World War II, and on Septemeber 17th, Soviet Union also invades Poland. On Sept 3, 1939, Due to Britains Mutual Assistance Treaty with Poland signed in August 25th, Britain has to help Poland. Britain, Australis, and New Zealand also joined.

    Sept 27 - Warsaw surrenders, 140,000 Polish troops taken prisoner. Germany implements a "Extraordinary Pacification Action," which exterminated the middle and upper classes, as well as catholics thinking they might be of a future resistance.

  • Hitler survives assassination attempt

    On the 16th anniversary of the Beer Hall Putsch, just after Hitler finishes a speech, a bomb explodes meaning to kill him. He was not injured. Next day, the press blamed the bomb on British agents.

    Soviet Invades Finland

    Deemed an illegal attack by League of Nations.
    Russian had 465,000 men and 1,000 aircraft assembled on the day to attack finland. Russians thought it was to be a cakewalk, as they did not think Finland would have much resistance.
    USA also gave 10 million dollars as support to Finland
    It ends with the Moscow Peace treaty, in which Finland gave away land
  • Nazis invade Denmark and Norway.

    Germany ships enter major Norweigen ports, Copenhagen and some Danish cities are also occupied. King Christian X surrenders Denmark almost immediatley.
  • Germany invades Holland and Belgium, Winston Churchill is new prime minister

    Western blitzkrieg offensive started by the word "danzig" by Hitler, sending forces to Belgium and Holland. At the same time, Neville Chamberlain resigns and Winston Churchill becomes Britain's new prime minister.
  • Operation Dynamo/Dunkirk

    338,000 stranded men were rescued by owners of sea-worthy vessals. A call went out to them to rescue them as General Gort of Britain retreated. 140,000 of the rescued were french troops that will later be the resistance of General Charles De Gaulle.
  • Belgium surrenders to the Nazis.

  • Defeat of Norway

    Norway surrenders to Germany, Germany moves on to France and Britain. Germany's forces are to enter Paris.
