Realizing Athletic Talent: Industry vs. Inferiority
In elementary school (age 6 specific), I started to develop a talent for gymnastics, which soon turned into a passion. I would feel accomplished in anything that I did, whether it be something smaller or rather larger. In Erikson's fourth stage, the child's circle of influences expands and they may begin comparing themselves to others around them. Although success makes a child feel accomplished, feelings of inferiority may arise if the child has coped with unfavorable events at home.
  • Finding Myself: Identity vs. Confusion

    Finding Myself: Identity vs. Confusion
At 16, I always tried to find who I was in numerous ways. I'd try new things to figure out who I was. I dealt with many new experiences/conflict. I would always focus on my views, goals, and beliefs. I concentrated on increasing my self-confidence, courage, and positivity. In Erikson's 5th stage, the child struggles to find oneself. Finding oneself takes a child a long way in self identity, however if they do not look for their identity, they will have a difficult time seeing a clear future.
  • Recognizing Myself: Intimacy vs Isolation

    Recognizing Myself: Intimacy vs Isolation
By 18, I have discovered myself and who I am, having many values/goals. I feel safe and dedicated to all of my present relationships. In Erikson's 6th stage, one finally recognizes oneself and begins to invest their time in committed relationships. If successful in this stage, the person has a strong sense of self identity and is able to develop strong relationships. If unsuccessful, the individual does not have a strong sense of self identity and is unable to build strong relationships.
