In Erikson's first stage, trust versus mistrust, the crisis is between being cared for by their caregiver and developing a sense that the world is a safe, predictable place (trust) or if they are being neglected by their caregiver, developing feelings of anxiety and fear towards the world (mistrust). -

Jay Capala is about to graduate highschool and ponders what kind of career path he would like to take, going on into college or finding and starting a job. In Erikson's fourth stage, Identity versus role confusion, the crisis is a person discovering who they are and asking questions like "Who am I, what do I want to do in life?" (identity) People who do not make a conscious search for identity, or are pressured to conform to their parents idea may develop a weak sense of self (role confusion). -
Deciding to join a club
Jay starting his first year of college decides if he should join a school club or not. In Erikson's theory in the fifth stage, Intimacy vs Isolation, the crisis is deciding to join a social club to create and maintain with others in the future (intimacy) or not joining the school club and risk struggling to meet new people or friends (Isolation).
