Edward VII died of bronchitis on May 6 at 11:45 p.m. He had been very ill for a long time, but insisted on working until the end. His final words were “I am very glad” when his son (George V) tells him that his horse, Witch of the Air, had won at Kempton Park. After his death, George V became the King.
