Timeline~ Envisioning a better District

  • Infrastructure

The District embarks on an ambitious plan to provide wireless capabilities to each of its schools. This infrastructure project propels the District to move from a "what if" possition to one in which ready and dependable connectivity is a reality.
  • Period: to

    CCSS & LCAP Implementation

Districts are energized by LCAP budget process and full implementation of CCSS for ALL students!
  • POLICY CHANGES

Within a year of going wireless, the district changes its policy regarding BYOD. They also allow greater accessibility for teachers to use free online resources for instruction. There is a realization that PD for technology integration must fit seamlessly with other type of PD (CCSS)
  • Professional Development

The District has established a TOSA-Technology position. It has also established that all PD must include a tech integration strand. All site administrators are LEC proficient.
  • World Citizens

The District has optimized its instructional program to ensure that
1- students in special education are provided LRE in their classrooms by dismantling the old fashioned SDC model for one of integration using a Universal Lesson Design model. Learning Centers are in full use in all schools.

2- Each school has committed to teaching a second language as a way of creating world citizens. This Dual Language philosophy permeates the District and leads to greater parental involvement.
  • Form follows Function

The District has passed a bond measure to dramatically alter the physicality of each school. First, school "start time" is flexible to allow for parents' working schedules. The fist hour and the last hour of school are "independent study times" during which students can work 1:1 with a computer, meet in collaborative groups to catch up on projects, meet with their teacher/facilitator. Gone are the rows of desks, replaced instead by work tables, technology stations, and video conf. rooms.
  • A Whole New World

The District has innovative teachers who blog about their successes & interact with educators across the county. Students are adept at using technology to produce work that is of meaning and value. Parents take on the responsibility of being equal partners since their child's progress is readily accessible to them. Student classroom presentations are available via technology so that parents feel like they have a front row seat in their child's education.
