PBS on Horace MannA big advocate of common schools, believed that at the time we took better care of our live stock. I feel like Horace Mann was the man who really turned education in the right direction. Though it may seem like someone else could have done this Horace put in the effort that led to education reaching more and more children. He really is the Patron Saint of Education.

ImmigrationA huge influx of immigrant children. A big issue arose of what religion to teach in school, if any. The major trend that I see throughout education history are the influxes of students in the student population. Common School was the start of the few major influxes as well as the immigration of the 19th Century. Also this time period was a beginning of the seperation of Church and Schooling.

TestsThe birth of multiple choice tests and questions. This may be any interesting moment to analyze but hear me out. I feel this is where we went wrong, the snowball at the top of the hill. The introduction of multiple choice tests into the education realm I feel lead to an increase of standardized testing because it was easy to track. Multiple choice questions are easy to cheat or overcome.

This Act was passed to encompass all parts of life but it greatly affect education. This Act banned all discrimination based on color.

IDEA ActThis Act open the door of education to everyone with a disability to have a chance of an education tailored to their needs and capacity. This was on of the last steps taken by our Government to reach out to all the students that they could. I feel that this was a powerful Act to be based and truly gavean opprotunity for education to those who had little to no chance for one. As a proud nephew to an Aunt who finally got her highschool degree at 40 I love this Act and all that it entails!

NCLB ActThis Act was instituted to require that all young adults graduate with a high school diploma. I feel this Act was a mistake but a step in the right direction. As a the final piece in the trend of expanding education to all children this was the last thing needed. By require all students to get a high school diploma or equivilant we increased our numbers in regards to graduations. But on the flip side I feel we decreased our quality of education.
