United States 20th Century Economic Timeline

  • Stock Market Crash

    The United States went into a depression during this time. The collapse pushed the U.S into The Great Depression.
  • 1933-1937

    1933-1937
    From the years 1933-1937 the United States was in a recession. 1933 was the worst year of The Great Depression. For example, 80 percent of industrial jobs were lost, 13 million Americans lost their job, and 10,000 bannks failed.
  • World War II

    During World War II the U.S had an expansion in the economy due to the fact that supllies needed to became more mass produced and U.S citezens could take the palce of those at war. 5.3 million Americans were unemployment far less than the 11.5million who were unemployed in 1932
  • 1945-1947

    From 1945 to 1947 the U.S economy was in a rescesion due to the decline of goverment spendings leading to a drop in gross domestic products, technically making this a recession.
  • The OPEC Embargo of 1973

    The OPEC embargo in 1973 caused America's economy to go into another recession. The U.S was dependent on foreign oil trades so when there was an embargo the U.S couldnt get the oil.
  • 1983-1989

    in 1983 the economy started expanding again. Only 5% of the population was unemployed and the GDP was large again.
  • The Gulf War

    From the Gulf War in 1990 America's economy was briefly in a recession but then went into the longest period of exapnision in American history.
  • 1991- 2001

    In the twenty-first century the economy had a big recession from having to cut taxes for anexpensive war with Iraq oil prices had increased strongly.
