ECE 101 Module 1 Timeline

  • Freidrich Froebel

    Froebel was known as "the father of kindergarten". He was known as this because of his teaching techniques that was focused on creating environmentas that enable childrens learning. His techniques were very similar to montessori.
  • Jean Piaget

    Jean Piaget was a famous psychologist who conducted many studies with children. Piaget was well known for his cognitive theory that states children start with a "blank canvas"
  • Maria Montessori

    Maria Montessori started the montessori schools in 1907. Maria developed the theory that children teach themselves. In her schools, teachers observe children but, try to let them be as independent as possible.
  • Elemenrary and Secondary Education Act

    This act was created in 1965 to help schools, especially in low-income areas. The act focused on funding to shorten to acheivement gaps.
  • Beginning of Headstart Program

    President Lyndon B. Johnson and Mr. Shriver used the Office of Economic Opportunity (OEO) to establish the Head Start program, as it started in the summer of 1965, as an eight week summer program for children from low-income communities going into public school in the fall.
  • Department of Education

    The deparment of education went into effect in 1980. This department regulates school funding and nutrition, along with programs like Headstart.
  • Improving Americas Schools Act of 1994

    This act was created under the Clinton administration during the education reform. This act attempted to coordinate federal resources and policies with the exisiting efforts at the state and local levels in order to improve instruction for all students
  • No Child Left Behind Act

    The No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 was put into place on Janurary 8, 2002. This act stated new goals and standards for test scores in public school systems. Schools are now required to send in test scores to recieve any funding.
