Eastern Europe after the end of the Cold War

  • Berlin Wall Falls

    The Berlin Wall separated the Western area of Berlin from the rest of Eastern Germany. The fall of the Berlin wall allowed for ideas to spread in and out of the territory instead of staying isolated from new ideas.
  • Reunification of Germany

    The German Democratic Republic became a part of Federal Republic of Germany. This made it a multi-state nation as people of German heritage existed among multiple states. Germany was now whole again, allowing for more trade and movement across borders.
  • Independence

    With the end of the cold war, many states became independent from the sovereignty of the USSR. Self-determination led many now independent states like Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, etc.

    Persisting Ideas

    With the USSR having control over many countries, neocolonialism persists. In these new states, the ideas and culture brought from the USSR still remain in today's society.
