Early events of WWII

  • The Austrian Anschluss

    Hitler threatened to invade Austria unless Austrian Nazis were given important government posts. Austrias chancellor gave in to this demand, but then tried to put the matter of unification with Germany to a democratic vote. frearing the outcome Hitler sent troops in to Austria in March and announced the unification with Germany.
  • The Munich Conference

    Hitler wanted to take over an area in Czechoslovakia called Sudentenland. France threatened to fight Germany if they attacked Czechoslovakia. The Soviet Union and Britain promised to aid France. Czecholsovakia was told to give up the Sudentenalnd to aviod war.
  • Hitler Demands Danzig

    A month after the Munich Confrence Hitler demanded that the city of Danzig Wat to be returned to the control of the Germans. He prepared to invade Poland, and also ordered his foreign minister to begin negotations With USSR. Germany was going to fight britian and france, but didnt want to fight the USSR too.
  • The Nazi-Soviet Pact

    The Soviets signed a nonagression treaty with Germany to protect the USSR. Poland was to be divided between Germany and the Soviet Union.
  • The Invasion of Poland

    Germany invaded Poland, two days later Germany invaded France. Polands army was too outdated. The polish army rode horses and carried lances against german tanks. Germany surrounded enemy positions using tanks and bomber planes suppoureted the tanks. The Polish army could not repel the attack. The Polish capital fell to the Germans.
  • The Fall of France

    France and Britain played the defensive which enabled the Germans to focus on Poland before they attacked them. They waited behind the Maginot Line which protected France's borders from Germany. Germany found a way around it in Belgium. The Germans brought tanks through which the French and British under estimated their power. The German troops destroy the French and British.
  • The Evacuation of Durnkirk

    The French and British needed a way out of Belgum. All of the ports where closed except for, Durnkirk. The German troops began to take over Dirnkirk but stop for some odd reason. The British sends in many ships and saves about 45,000 troops.
  • Battle of Britian

    After Hitler had conquered most of Europe, including France, the only major country left to fight them was Great Britain. Germany wanted to invade Great Britain, but first they needed to destroy Great Britain's Air Force. The Battle of Britain was when Germany bombed Great Britain in order to try and destroy their air force and prepare for invasion.
