  • The Austrian Anschluss

    The Austrian Anschluss
    Hitler announces an AnschlussThe Chancellor, Kurt von Schuschnigg was bullied into allowing more Nazi's into Austria by Hitler. The Chancellor appointed a Nazi minister of police and announced an amnesty for all Nazi prisoners, by doing so he hoped that Hitler would not invade the country. Hitler was not satasified and wanted more power so he sent in army troops. The President refused to back down and appoint a pro-Nazi chancellor so Hitler invaded. In the end 99.7% of the people agreed that Germany and Austria should unite
  • The Munich Conference

    The Munich Conference
    The Conference consisted of British, Franch, Italian and German representives. Britain and France became for their known appeasement. An appeasement is knowning you'll have concessions in exchange for peace. Although the British agreed to the peace, they still built up their rearmament. The Appeasement failed to last and Hitler sent German troops into Czecholovakia which divided the country into Slovakia and Czech. Czech became a German protectorate.

    Hitler Demands Danzig
    Hitler demanded control of a highway and railroad that crossed the Polish Corridor and Danzig, a city owned by Poland that was 90% German, a little over a month after the Munich Conference. Once France and Britain realized that war was innevitable, the two countries declared that if Poland went to war, in order to defend itself, they would aid Poland. Poland refused Hitler's requests, so Hitler prepared to invade Poland in May of 1939 and began negotiations with the USSR.

    Stalin agreed to a nonagression treaty proposed by Germany. Secretly inside the treaty, the Soviets and Germans agreed to split Poland between the two countries. Many countries were shocked since the Germans supported Nazism and the Soviets supported Communism, two very different types of government.
  • The Invasion of Poland

    The Invasion of Poland
    Germany invaded Poland on September 1, 1939. Britain and France declared war on Germany two days after. Poland was outdated using horses and lances while the Germans used a tanks, aircrafts, and blitzkrieg warfare (lightning war). The Polish capitial, Warsaw, was obtained on September 27, 1939 and it was declared that the Polish were defeated on October 5, 1939.

    Fall of FranceWithin a time span of about 9 months, Britain, France, and Germany fought very little, this was known as the "Phoney War". On May 10, 1940, Germany invaded France, the invasion's code name was Case Yellow. The Germans went threw surrounding countries to get around the Maginot Line. The Germans crossed over the Meuse River within 4 days and broke the French lines. On June 14, 1940 Paris fell.

    Dunkirk evacuation endsThe evacuation lasted 9 days and 330,000 people were saved by Allied troops. On May 26, 1940 The British began the evacuation codenamed "Operation Dynamo". On June 4, 198,000 British and 140,000 French troops were saved.
  • The Battle of Britain

    Battle Of BritainThe Frence were defeated on June 17, 1940, Britain is now the only country against Germany. The Germans doubted the British, although they were so much more powerful then they thought. Luftwaffe was abandoned between the 13th and 15th of August. The first attack on London was on Septemeber 7, and the second attack was on Septemeber 15. The first attack was a sucess and the second was a loss.
