-In 1543, Jacques Cartier claimed the territory for the King of France.
-In 1604, Samuel De Champlain arrived and stayed.
-In 1760, Montreal came under British control.
-In1774, the Quebce Act restored French civil law, while miantaining British criminal law and guaranteeing religious freedom for Roman Catholics. -

-In 1763 Ottawa warrior, Pontiac, led a group of warriors and raided interior trading posts in a desperate bid to back European expansion.
-The American Revolution ended with the Treaty of Paris in 1783 which established the border between Canada and the United States. -

-government passed the Rebellion Losses Bill that would compensate Lower Canadians for land lost during the Rebellions of 1837.
-Bill was taken back but parliament was moved, alternating between Quebec city and Toronto untill it's establishment in Ottawa on the last day of 1857.
-1849- Border between Canada and U.S., which ran along the 49th parallel, was extended to the Pacific
