Donatello was born in Florence, Italy in the year 1386

In around 1404-1407 Donatello joined the workshop of Lorenzo Ghiberti, a sculptor in bronze.

While also working on other sculptures, he made two marble statues called St. George and St. Mark.

In the period of 1408-1415, Donatello made his first sculpture, which was a seated marble figure of Saint John the Evangelist.

In 1416, Donatello invented his own style of relief called Stiacciato Relief. Relief is a form of art where people are sculpted from a flat piece, making them stand out from the background. The first piece he used this one was called "St. George Killing the Dragon"

Between 1420 and 1432 Donatello made many works that all developed his Stiacciato Relief technique. One of which is "The Ascension, with Christ Giving the Keys to St. Peter".

Between 1443 and 1455 Donatello worked in Padua, Italy. He worked on various bronze projects, but was absent from working from 1452 to 1455.

During Donatello's absence, a new wave of sculptures came around. Donatello continued working on bronze until he died in 1466 due to an unknown cause.
