Leaving Ireland

Jun 24, 1858

I decided to board a ship departing to the United States. The potato famine was nearly killing me. I had no one to move with so i moved alone.

Entered United States

Sep 1, 1858

After getting stuck in a storm for more than 2 months, I finally got to the great United States. The statue of Liberty was a warm welcome to hopefully a great future.

thanksgiving

Nov 25, 1858

After over a month of begging, I am still on the streets. I almost have enough money to board a train to the West. I did get a few scraps of left-over turkey from trash.

found job

Dec 18, 1858

Got hired by a fight club to be a bartender during weekends. this hasn't got me out of the streets but it is paying for a decent amount of food.

leaving to the west

Feb 8, 1859

I was fired from the fight club and found out I had just enough money to buy a train ticket to the West. I decided to go to Washington State becasue there might be jobs.

Arrived in Washington

Feb 17, 1859

After a while on the train, where i met a man named Joseph Mallery who i played cards with on the train to pass time. There were many green trees all over the place.No wonder they call this the Evergreen state.

found a job

Throughout Washington I found a job building railroads.

got into fight

Mar 15, 1859

A few days after getting my new job, an angry American got into a fight with me over my job. He was mad that i was doing the job for less pay and taking "true american's" jobs. I broke an arm during the fight.
