She remembers that all the neighboorhood kids crowded around the TV in the small living room and watched a show called "Howdy Duty". They couldnt believe what they saw. Another thing she recals about the television was that it only had one channel and it would only air for about three hours a day.

    Diane was in sixth grade during the time that Russia and the U.S were cold war enemys. Russia had put the first satelite into space. The satelite was about the size of a basketball and named Sputnik. The U.S wasn't going to let Russia win the space war. The school that Diane when to during this time really inforced their learning in the categories of math and science. This wasn't all bad for Diane because she really enjoyed math classes.

    Diane was a senior when John F. Kenedy was shot. Her high school had about 3,000 students in class on November 22. At 1:00 in the afternoon they found out that the president had been shot and died. They were told to go home. Nobody when home, they all just stood there, not knowing what to do.
