The acanthodians was a jawless fish. They are also called spiny sharks and live in fresh water.

First plants with seeds began to grow creating forests. At first they were only moss and those plants but now there were trees.

Toward the end of the Devonian the first forests arose as stemmed plants evolved strong, woody structures capable of supporting raised branches and leaves. Some Devonian trees are known to have grown 100 feet (30 meters) tall.

A huge extinction occured ending the Devonian Period. The most important group affected by the extinction was the great-reef systems.

Placoderms are huge fish with an armored body and head. placoderms were the dominant vertebrate group during the Devonian period, growing larger than other groups of fish. They are one of the first jawed fish.
