    People relied on agriculture as their food source. They raised their own livestock on their own land. Tea bag was invented in 1904.

    Markets were not easily accessible due to transportation issues. Most ate potatoes at least once a day. Stews with potatoes, fish and other types of meat with fresh vegetables were cooked over open fire.

    Rural America was still producing their own food. People living in the cities were experimenting and the Baby Ruth candy bar was invented. Canned foods became popular. French fries were invented.

    In 1940s the United States was at war. In 1942 the US began rationing sugar, canned goods, milk and cheese. War ended in 1950 and the fast food industry began to emerge.

    Experiment with ethnic foods . Cooking shows were available to show people how to cook French food and many others. Diet soft drinks were invented. Pepsi was invented.
