  • MaoZedong heads Long March

    Mao Zedong was the leader of the Communist Party in China. When he knew that the Communists were in trouble and were about to lose the war, they decided to embark on a 6000 mile long march across China. Many people died from cold and exposure.
  • Germany invades Poland; France and Great Britain declare war on Germany

    The Franch and British agreed with Germany that the Germans can take parts of Czechoslovakia to expand Germany as long as Germany stopped expanding there. Germany, however, deicded to invade Poland with the help of the Soviet Union. This angered Britain and France, so they declared war.
  • Japan attacks Pearl Harbor

    Japanese war leader, Yamamoto, wanted to strike the US beause he believed that Pearl Harbor was a dagger pointing at the throat of Japan. So one early morning in 1941, the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor and destroyed multiple battleships and killed thousands of people. This was the beginning of the USA entering the war.
  • United Nations formed

    The United Nations was formed to have an international peacekeeping and rights-enforcing group with accepted countries.
  • Germany surrenders

    The Allies completely surrounded Berlin, the city in which Hitler was. Hitler and his wife commited suicide because they knew that there was no way that Germany could get out of that situation. The US took this as an unofficial surrender, and most of the Nazi leaders were executed.
  • Allies use atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki

    The US knew that Japan was never going to surrender unless they attempted to drop the atomic bomb on them. Robert Oppenheimer designed the atomic bombs and he made two: Fatboy and Littleman. They were dropped in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and instantly killed tens of thousands of people, with many more dying later from radiation. Then, right after Nagasaki was bombed, the Japanese surrendered.
