  • Stamp Act of 1765

This act helped to cross the line with from what colonists thought was responsible to help the British pay for the French and Indian War. Most colonists did not support a tax which seemed to be placed on everything from newspapers, bill of sales, shipping and other paper documents. Colonists even elected delegates to meet a Stamp Act Congress to discuss how to handle this British tax. American merchants also protested by stating they would not buy or import British products.
  • Quartering Act of 1765

This act required the colonists to house, shelter, ad feed British troops in the colonies. The act was singed by King George III on Match 24, 1765 and required the colonist to provide this assistance t British troops after the French and Indian War by housing them in often personal areas such as inns, stables, other family and business dwellings. American colonists resisted the act as they didn't understand why British troops needed to be kept on their soil during peacetime after the war.
  • Townsend Acts of 1767

these acts were named after Charles Townsend who was the chancellor of the British handling of money. these were taxes on imported items the colonists got from Britain that included things like lead, china, glass, paint, paper, and tea. Some of this was in response to what Benjamin Franklin had encouraged the colonists to do which was to make their own goods and not rely on the British goods. Townsend them taxed the items above because he thought the colonists could not live without them.
  • Boston Massacre of 1770

This event marked the beginning of significant physical confrontations between the colonists and British soldiers as the soldiers tried to enforce the taxation wishes of the British King and Parliament in 1770. There were about 2,000 British soldiers who sent to Boston to enforce the taxing of approximately 16,000 Boston residents. The people of Boston had enough of the taxation and rebelled against the soldiers and used the phrase "no taxation without representation" as a rally call.
  • Boston Tea Party

the Boston Tea Party resulted from the failure of the repeal of the Townsend Acts to remove the tax on tea. All other taxes on goods were removed except one on tea. The British East Indian Company was in the process of going bankrupt, so Parliament had wanted to keep the tax on tea for the colonists to try and prevent the bankruptcy of the company. Then on December 16, 1773 colonial Patriots boarded East India Company ships and dumped several containers of tea into the Boston Harbor.
