    Upper and Lower Canada unite into the province of Canada. Canada east and Canada west had an equal amount of seats in the Assembly or Parliament. The two main parties in the Assembly were the Conservatives and the Reform Party. One of the leaders of the Conservatives was John A Macdonald. Conservatives were loyal to Queen Victoria and proud of their connection to Britain.

    John A Macdonald was the prime minister. Much dispute was going on about where the capital should be. He chose to let Queen Victoria decide where to place it. When she chose Ottawa everyone else was against it and called Ottawa nothing more than a "sub-arctic lumber village."

    The government and opposition had almost an equal amount of seats. voting for the passing of bills always resulted in a difference of only a few votes. Bills were almost never passed through and no new laws were made. the country was in political deadlock

    Canada west has now defeated Canada west in a battle of population. The english speakers have now outnumbered the frenchies. Canada West wanted more members in assembly due to their higher population, but the east would not agree with that.

  • The Fall of MacDaonald

    Macdonald's government loses the election by 2 votes. and goerge brown suggested a coalation to get canada out of its political deadlock. Goerge said he would be willing to join any party, so he could help Canada deal with the deadlock, even with his foe John a Macdonald. Goerge made an inspirational speech, and then all they parties wished to join him so they could stop the deadlock. The coalation he formed had 100 of the 130 seats in the assembly
