Jean Hoerni's Planar process, invented at Fairchild Camera and Instrument Corp. This is important because it improves reliability and, by allowing printing of conducting channels directly on the silicon surface. -
Dataphone
It was important that AT&T made its dataphone because it helped us with things like converting digital computer data to analog signals for transmission across its long distance network. -
Acoustically Coupled Modem
The acoustically coupled modem was important because it helped reliably detected bits of data despite background noise heard over long-distance phone lines. -
Intel´s 8008 Microprocessor
Intel´s 8008 microprocessor was important because it for the first time, a microprocessor could handle both uppercase and lowercase letters, all 10 numerals, punctuation marks, and a host of other symbols. -
The Apple II
The Apple II was important because its printed circuit motherboard, switching power supply, keyboard, case assembly, manual, game paddles, A/C powercord, and cassette tape with the computer game "Breakout." When hooked up to a color television set, the Apple II produced brilliant color graphics. This gave us the first look at what we could create. -
Apollo Computer
The Apollo Computer was important because it showed the first work station, its DN100, offering more power than some minicomputers at a fraction of the price. -
EISA
The EISA was important because it used a 32-bit bus, or a means by which two devices can communicate. The advanced data-handling features of the EISA made it an improvement over the 16-bit bus of industry standard architecture. Also IBM´s competitors developed the EISA as a way to avoid paying a fee to IBM for its MCA bus.
