Computer Timeline

  • The Silicon Chip

    The Silicon Chip
In 1958 the first silicon chip was produced by Jack Kilby & Robert Noyce from the U.S. The silcon chip was a big step, it is what does the processing in the CPU, thus, helping the progress of computers greatly.
  • First Computer Game

    First Computer Game
The first computer game, so far as we can tell, was created in 1962. It was called Spacewar and was made by Steve Russell & MIT. Spacewar is a two player game, and in it you try to destroy the other player's spaceship! I felt it important for me to include this in my timeline, because the idea of usings computer for fun and entertainment and not just work and research must've come along right arount the time we created a game for it.
  • Computer Mouse

    Computer Mouse
This is when the first mouse came about, invented by Douglas Engelbart. It was named 'the mause' because of it's long, trailing wire that resembled a tail. I personally am next to lost without a computer mouse, so it being invented is pretty important to me and I wanted it to be included in my timeline because of my hatred of trackpads.
  • RAM

    RAM
At this time, RAM came into the picture. It was thought up and brought to life(as alive as any part of a computer can be) by Intel. RAM allows you to run programs and you may access it at any time. RAM is really important because it let you do more with programs, has better quality and let you change it if, and whenever, you wanted to. That's pretty important, if you ask me.
  • Apple

    Apple
Apple joined the computer word at this time. It is well known who founded the program, but I'll tell you here anyway. Steve Wozniak and Steve Jobs are the men responsible for Apple. Apple is insanely amazing and deserves a spot in this timeline because it was a huge milestone in technology/computers, and now are used all over the place!
  • Windows

    Windows
Microsoft Windows made it possibble to not need the user to type each command, and it used a mouse to navigate through menus, and other such things. Not having to manually type in commends is a big deal. I am really appreciative of drop-down menus and icons, so I really wanted to have Windows make an apperance in my time line.
  • Apple Macintosh

    Apple Macintosh
Apples came out with a mouse and window interface. I found it interesting that Mac came out with things after they were invented and still came out on top.
  • The World Wide Web

    The World Wide Web
The World Wide Web was launched. It made it possible for images and sound tracks to be accesed through different devices. I think that this is important because it's the internet. And I live on the internet, it is my life. And without it it would be really hard to communicate with friends through email or Facebook. And studying/researching would be really hard.
  • Google

    Google
Google is a search engine, areally popular one. Although it goes about finding websites by sending out Googlebot, a web crawler, to get them. Google is really helpful and works well. It's fast and is visually pleasing. A lot of people use Google.
  • First Apple iPod

    First Apple iPod
When it first came out, the iPod was at a 'mac-only' status. It had a 5 GB hard drive. The iPod is an important step in the history of computers. It had a hard drive that was only the size of a quarter and still had 5 GBs.
