  • Manhattanville Music Curriculum Project-

    Conference: Manhattanville College, Purchase, NY. This conference focused on synthesizing a k-12 curriculum in terms of CMP. This was carried out in three parts with each phase occurring over the next two year each year respectively beginning at the outset of the conference. This was also significant as it was the first CMP funded by a grant from the US Department of Ed.
  • Comprehensive Musicianship Seminar

    Conference: @ Northwestern University. This seminar collected nearly all the major players at the university level. The goal was to “determine in what ways college music courses… could be updated to prepare teachers to understand and prepare contemporary music effectively.”
  • Hawaii Curriculum project

    Conference: 1967-72. Developed 33 sequentially-organized music curricula. These included teacher and student manuals for all areas of music instruction.
  • Warrington Virginia Musicianship Project

    Conference: Developed a document called "Procedures for evaluation of music in contemperary education" that offered guidelins and evaluation of techniques and attitudes aquired through CMP studies.

    Conference: A group of Music Educators gathered at Lawrence College in WI to discuss effective teaching and significant learning in performing groups. Led to the creation of the Wisconsin CMP.

He also accuses general CMP methods of familiarizing students with many things while mastering none (i.e. “[CMP] is in danger of encouraging dilettantism”), attempting to synthesize too early in the process, synthesized approached where isolated may be more effective, and “creativity” over mastery.

    This was a presentation at the Midwest Clinic. It contains charts and definitions regarding curriculum alignment of KMEA and comprehensive musicianship. It includes a marching band section and several method books to use when teaching students.
  • Iowa Comprehensive Musicianship Project

    Project focused on providing music students in a band choir orchestra and general music setting with complete music learning and understanding. CMP is described by the Iowa Project as “a planning process which teachers can apply to any level and type of musical learning situation. The process leads to a program of teaching and learning which emphasizes the interdependence of musical knowledge and musical performance. all of Iowa’s music organizations are supportive of this program.
