  • Roanoke

    Roanoke
    The Roanoke colony was the first English settlement of the new world. It was founded by Sir Walter Raleigh. The first colonists had a tough time surviving due to Indian attacks and little food supplies. John White had been sent out to obtain more supplies for the colonists survival, but by the time he had returned, everyone had vanished.

    Salutary Neglect
    One of the main reasons the Salutary Neglect was put into place was to make sure the American would remain loyal to the British. Especially during the period of expansion in Colonial America. The Salutary Neglect was mainly about the profit that was made off of natural resources from the colonies in exchange for goods from England. This act had led to the Triangular Trade action.

  • Jamestown

    Jamestown
    In 1607, a group of representatives, called the Virginia Company, had met to establish the first permanent English settlement in Jamestown. Jamestown had almost completely fallen due to disease and lack of supplies before a ship with supplies had came in 1610. James Forte had been a major factor in building houses, creating weapons, and farming, where tobacco was their biggest import.

    The House of Burgesses was a council of men, elected representatives from Virginia. They met to discuss political issues. The men actually did not start discussing issues until 1643, when they finally agreed that they had chosen all of the right representatives.

    The Great Migration was the arrival of the Mayflower from Plymouth to the new settlement in New England. London merchants had helped form a joint-stock company in order to place a spot on a land patent. The ship had included 101 passengers including Separatist nonbelievers and believers. It had lasted for just about ten years.

  • Mayflower/Plymouth/Mayflower Compact

    Mayflower/Plymouth/Mayflower Compact
    The Mayflower Compact was signed by 41 English colonists on the Mayflower ship. This was the first form of government that had been written down to establish that they must follow the government rules on wherever they would land. William Bradford, the pilgrim leader, had made sure that all of his men would sign it to create obedience and a just government on shore when they landed.

    The Massachusetts Bay Colony had been settled by a number of Puritans from England under John Winthrop. In 1629 the Massachusetts Bay Colony had obtained a a charter that could help them trade and colonize New England. The territory was between the Charles and Merrimack rivers.

    The Maryland colony was founded by George Calvert, Lord Baltimore and several colonists living in Baltimore. Colonists focused on manufacturing and agriculture. Southern colonies had a huge amount of slaves due to the large amount of plantations they had that produced cotton, tobacco, rice and several other resources.

The colony had a good source of raw materials and had been named after the massive amount of red clay that was on the shore line.The colonists had focused on manufacturing and town building.     The Connecticut colony was founded by Thomas Hooker in 1636. Hartford was a main settlement area where a group of Dutch people from the New Netherlands had lived. Members from the plymouth colony had set up a trading post set up along the Connecticut river close to Windsor.

    Maryland Toleration Act
    During this time in England, there was little to no religious freedom and people were often punished if they did not follow the same religion. The Toleration Act was passed and granted religious freedom to whomever believed in the Divine Trinity. Although the death penalty was put into place if anyone denied or did not believe in the trinity.

    The South Carolina colony had been founded by eight English noblemen, from King Charles II. Charleston was the biggest city in Carolina. The colonists focused mainly on agriculture and had many successful plantations. Although they did trade for things they did not have such as farm tools, dishes and thread.

    Bacon's rebellion had been started due to numerous causes such as: a decline in tobacco prices, an increase in prices from English manufactured goods, and a restrict in the English Market. Also the issues with the weather and the wars with the Dutch. All of this caused an outbreak of raids from the Indians.

    The Salem Witch trials had begun when a few girls that had claimed to be possessed by the devil and began spreading rumors that there was more witchcraft in their town. An outbreak had occurred and more men, women, and children has been accused of witchcraft. These people were falsely accused and hanged or killed with little to no evidence.

  • French and Indian War

    The conflict between Britain and France had begun when France had begun to move their territory into the Ohio River valley. France had been successful with the aid of the Indians and the British had begun to struggle but in 1757 William Pitt had paid Prussia to help aid them in the war. The peace conference in 1763 helped the British obtain Canada and Florida and France kept its West Indian sugar islands and Louisiana was given to Spain.

    The Albany Plan had been placed to create a more centralized government. The plan had been proposed under the representatives of governments during a meeting known as the Albany Congress. Although the plan was never fully carried out, this was the first step towards a united union, trying to initiate the divisions between the government.

  • Proclamation of 1763

    Proclamation of 1763
    After the French and Indian war, the British thought that they needed to take more control over the colonies they had obtained. This proclamation had stopped the expansion going West. In return, King George III had proclaimed that all of the land west of the Appalachian Divide was no longer able to be visited by colonial settlers, only licensed traders were allowed. This was to protect Native Americans from attacks.
