    Founding of Jamestown
    It wes the first pernament English Colony. The government, language, customs, beliefs and aspirations of this early colony help shape the United States today. Jamestown is in Virginia. Is located at the James river. The founding of Jamestown led to the founding of other English Colonies.
  • Creation of the House of Burgesses

    Creation of the House of Burgesses
    Representives were elected to the house to meet with their royal governor about local laws. They were large plantation owners. This led to many other colonies wanting their own leglislation.
  • Founding of Plymouth

    Founding of Plymouth
    First pernament settlement of the Europeans in the New England. They secured peace treaties with the Native Americans and built vast self-sufficient economy.
  • Pequot War

    Pequot War
    The first war between the Native Americans and Europeans. The tribe was the Pequots. Many other tribes joined in with both the European Puritans and the Pequots. This war shifted the favor towards the Europeans. The Europeans killed the Pequots and took over with power.
  • Fundamental orders of Connecticut

    Citizens of Connecticut wrote this consitution. It called for two house legislature and an elected governor. Many other colonies or even states could use this writing as a model to make their own consitutions.
  • Toleration Act

    Toleration Act
    In Maryland, the Toleration Act was suppose to help with religious freedom. It was made because of the Catholics being the minority. They didn't want the protestants to treat them badly. Many other colonies could follow this act as well.
  • Navigation Acts

    Restricted American trade in different ways. Was put in place to keep the Dutch excluded from making profits of the English trading. The acts weren't followed during times of war and were later revoked in 1696
  • King Philip's War

    King Philip's War
    Marked the last attempt of the Native Americans of Southern New England to try to get rid of the English Settlers. Pokunoket chief was called 'King Philip." The bloody war destroyed 12 frontiers. The war end with the Natives being captured and beheaded.
  • Bacon's Rebellion

    Bacon's Rebellion
    Bacon led a revolt against Berkley. Many believed it was becaue Bacon didn't like his cousin. Others believe that Bacon revolted because Berkley refused to attack the indian tribes. It was the first stirring of revolutionary settlement.
  • Dominion of New England

    Dominion of New England
    Was the English offcials attempt to make the New England colonies become together and more of a whole of England. Rules were set in place for the colonies, but many chose not to follow them. The English had a new view of the colonies after they gave up on the Dominion.
  • Salem Witch Trials

    Salem Witch Trials
    A town doctor said the weird behavior of girls was because they were bewitched. Many people in Salem went around throwing trials to get rid of those who were witches. The innocent were killed due to supsition.
  • Great Awakening

    The Great Awakening was a new way for coloniests to preach their religion. This led away from the Church of England, making the colony even more different from Englands traditions and rules.
  • Peter Zenger Trial

    Peter Zenger Trial
    Peter Zenger was acused of printing newpapers that were not in favor of the government. The jury new he was guilty, but in a short 10 minutes named him inocent. This lead other printers to be able to print their views without fear.
  • Stono Rebellion

    Stono Rebellion
    Slaves in South Carolina tried to escape, but ended up killing white men and getting killed themselves. After this event, the colony made harsher restrictions on slaves, calling them the slave code.
