    Winston Churchill gave The Iron Curtain Speech. He described a Communist iron curtain descending on Europe.
  • Berlin Blockade

    The Berlin blockade was one of the first major international crises of the Cold War. The Berlin Blockade was an attempt in 1948 by the Soviet Union to limit the ability of France, Great Britain and the United States to travel to their sectors of Berlin.

    The Korean War was a war between South Korea and North Korea, in which a United Nations force led by the United States of America fought for the South, and China fought for the North, also assisted by the Soviet Union.     Cuba taken over
    Cuba had been taken over by Fidel Castro. He ruled over Cuba for nearly five decades, until handing off power to his younger brother Raúl in 2008.

    Bay of Pigs
    On April 17, the Cuban exile brigade began its invasion at an isolated spot on the island’s southern shore known as the Bay of Pigs. The invading force was defeated within three days by the Cuban armed forces.
  • Berlin Wall

    Berlin Wall
    The construction of the Berlin Wall stopped the flood of refugees from East to West, and it defused the crisis over Berlin. A 12-foot-tall, 4-foot-wide mass of reinforced concrete was topped with an enormous pipe that made climbing over nearly impossible.
