  • Yalta Conference

    A meeting between the head of the United Kingdom, United States, and the Soviet Union. It was originally called to discuss the reestablishment of the nations destroyed by war in Europe.
  • Truman Doctrine

    Used in response to the soviet expansion into the Eastern mediterranean. The Truman doctrine stated that the U.S would provide money to countries threatended by the communist expasnion.
  • Marshall Plan

    Was a European recovery plan. Proposed by General C. Marshall. It was designed to rebuild the properity and stability of war-torn Europe. It inculuded $13 billion in aod for Europe's economy. The soviet saw the Marshall Plan as an attempt to buy support of other countries.
  • Berlin Airlift

    The Soviet wanted the west out of Berlin. They made all the western traverlers headed for Berlin be searched.When the Trizone government refused, shipments to Berlin were stopped. They didnt take action until people in Berlin were starving and in great need of help. On June 27 they approved the west to shio goods to Berlin through an airlift.
  • NATO

    Formes=d when Belgium Luxemburg, France, Netherlands, Great Britan, Italy, Denmark, Norway, Protugual, and Iceland signed a treaty with the United States and Canada. All in agreement to provide mutual help if anyone of them was attacked. Years later west Germany, Turkey, and Greece joined.
  • USSR Atomic Bomb

    Chinese communist took control of the chinese Government.The U.S feared the expansion of communism. The Soviet Union exploded its first atomic bomb. Soon the U.S and Soviet Union were involoved in an army race. Building up their armies and weapons.
  • Korean war begins

    Began as an attempt by the communist governement of North Korea which was allied with soviet Unionto take over south Korea. The Korean war scared the u.s of communist expansion. The Us extended its military allinace around the world to prevent communism expanison.
  • Rosenberg Spy

    In 1950 the federal Bureau of investigation arrested Julian Rosenburg. He was an electrical engineer who had worked for the U.S army. Julian was convicted of conspiracy to commit espionage, He and his wife we sentenced to death by electrical chair. this marked a dramatic finale of the cold war. Hisory.com
  • East Germany Uprising

    Almost a million East German workers joined a protest against the government inorder to increase productivity. They all began rioting across East Germany.
  • Korean War end

    The war ended on July 27, 1953 when the armistice agreement was signed. The agreement stated that china, Noth, and South Korea could not fight.
  • Nikita Kruschev comes to power

    Kruschev was the chief Soviet policy maker. Once in power he attempted reforms in both domestic and foreign policy. His goals were to undo some of the things Stalin had done. He placed emphasis on producing consumers goods. During his term the cold war insecurities caused world politics to become more complex.
  • Warsaw Pact

    The warsaw pact was a formal military alliance between the Eastern European countries that supported communism. This alliance was influenced from the spread of the cold war. The treaty called on the membner states to come to the defence of any member attacked by outside forces.
  • Hungarian Uprising

    The rebellion was ascaused by unrest and economic hardships. In an attemp to control the revolt. Imrre Ivagy declared Hungary a free nation. With free electons Khruschev was not happy to let them leave.
  • Sputnik

    Sputnik was the first human made space satellite to orbit the Earth. Sputnik was made by the soviets. The Americans were scared of it. They thought there was a "missile gap" between the U.S, and Soviet Union.
  • U2 Incident

    An American spy plane was shot down in USSR. President Dwight Eisenhower had to admit that he had been spying on the Soviet Union. Piolet was put in prision for 10 years. But was released after 2 years for a "spy swap"
  • Bay of Pigs Invasion

    John F. Kennedy approved a secret invasion of Cuba. Cuban exiles hoped to cause a revolt against Castro. The invasion did not work. Most were captured of killed.
  • Berlin Wall (Buoilding)

    It was constructed to keermany from going west. They built it overnight and it was a symbolic boundary dividing communism and democracy.
  • Cuban Missil Crisis

    Khrushcher began placing nuclear missiles in Cuba. The U.S didnt like that there were powerful weapons so close to their land. This almost brought the world to nuclear war.
  • Prague Spring

    Prague Spring was a brief time in Czechsavakian history. It began with attcks on the president and led to uprisings and election of Alexander Dubeck. He made a reform plan.
  • Mikhail Gorbechev comes to power

    When Mikhail Gorbechev came to power the cold war ended. He had an openess policy that led to changes. He also stopped supporting communist nations. Which lead to the end of the cold war.
  • Berlin wall (take down)

    The head of communist party of East Germany announces that GDR citizens could cross the border of they wanted to. People brought hammers and picks to destory the wall. The wall was a symbolic boundary between democracy and communism. History.com

    This was a process in which the German democratic republic joined the federal republic of Germany to form the reunited nation of Germany.
