    The US won the space race against the Soviet Union. Apollo was launched and landed on the moon with Neil Armstrong. The world was inspired by this big step and new technologies and inventions started to take place.

  • The US and China finally "thaw"

    The US and China finally "thaw"
    President Mao of China and President Nixon of the US meet up and the United States recognizes the People's Republic of China. Something that China has wanted for more than 20 years. This led to a great trading relationship between the nations and led China to where is it today as a the powerhouse of trade.

  • Munich Massacre

    Munich Massacre
    This was a terrorist attack that happened during the Munich Olympics in Germany. Eight terrorists took 11 athletes hostage and wanted Israel to release hundreds of prisoners. All 11 hostages ended up dead and five of the terrorists were killed. After this, Israel bombed PLO bases in Syria and Lebanon while telling the Mossad to find and kill the rest of the terrorists.

  • Iranian Revolution

    Iranian Revolution
    This was an overthrow of the monarchy where more than 10,000 Iranians died. After this, the Shah of Iran fled from his home and his armies were defeated. An Islamic Republic was then created in effect of the revolution.

    Iranian students took 66 Americans hostage for 444 days. It started with a conflict over oil. This ultimately lead to bitterness in the US's attitude towards Iran and a loss of Soviet influence over Iran.
