    Fidel Castro and his revolting group took over Cuba, after they fled General Fulgencio Batista. Castro was a communist and spread communism throughout Cuba.

    U.S. ends an aid program to Cuba. This meant that we weren't going to help Cuba if something was to happen to them or there country.

    United States stops the import of sugar from Cuba, which is 80 percent of Cuba's exports to the United States.
  • The Bay of Pigs Invasion

    The Bay of Pigs Invasion
    A CIA back force (1,400 Cuban refugees) landed in the Bay of Pigs. A Cuban army was already there ready for them to come in, they had 20,000 soldiers. The Cuban army captured about 1,100 of the refugees and put them in prison. The U.S. government then paid $53 million dollars worth of medicine and food to get the refugess out of prison.

America suspected Cuba was getting supplies (missiles, etc.) from the Soviet Union and decided to make a naval blockade around Cuba. This blocked all trade between Cuba and the Soviet Union. Finally, Cuba and the U.S. agreed to stop.
