Chinese Civil War Starts
The civil war in China was between the communists and nationalists, the US involvement started in 1946. -
Truman Doctrine
Truman's policy for suppoting countries who were against communism. -
Marshall Plan
A plan Geroge Marshall proposed to aid Europeon countries that needed it. -
Berlin Blockade
When the Soviet Union blocked of Berlin and the city faced starvation. British, US, and French forces flew in supplies from the air. -
USSR Develops Atomic Bomb
Once the Soviets exploded their first atomic bomb, it made both Superpowers now Nuclear Powers. -
NATO Formed
Once the US feared Soviet agression they formed an alliance of the western nations called the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. -
Vietnam War Starts (US involvement)
Starting the 1950s, the US starting providing supplies and finacial aid and supplies and then soilders to a French colony. -
Korean War Starts
North Korea invaded South Korea after they were supplied by the Soviets with weapons and tanks, they crossed the 38th parallel and attacked. -
Warsaw Pact Formed
In response to the NATO, the Soviets created an alliance between eastern European nations such as Western Germany, Poland, Austria, Romania, Bulgaria, Albania, Hungary, and Czechslovakia. -
Launch of Sputnik
Once the Soviets announced their new made satillete, they lauched it in late 1957. This made the US feel as if they had fallen behind in science and technology. -
Cuban Revolution Ends
The US suppoted the opposed dictator in Cuba, yet in 1959 the revolution in Cuba overthrew him. -
Hungarian Uprising
A commuinist dictator in Hungary demanded the Soviets leave Hungary and this causing Soviet tanks to roll in and overthrow the rebellion. -
U-2 Incident
The US sent over spy planes over the USSR and in 1960, the Soviets shot the plane down and took the pilot hostage. This increased the tensions betweedn the two superpowers. -
Berlin Wall Built
The Soviets built the Berlin wall to seperate West Berlin from East Berlin. -
Cuban Missile Crisis
The Soviets began building missile bases in Cuba, it wasn't till later on that a US spy plan discovered them. US sent a ship blockade to keep Soviets from entering Cuba. -
Revolt in Czechslovakia
The Czech government kept a good hold on censorship in their country till Alexander loosened the censorship grip. -
Civil War in Nicaragua Starts
Just as the US supported the Cuban dictator, they also supported the Nicaraguan dictator yet rebels had overthrown the dictatorship. -
Soviet Invasion of Afghanistan
The Muslim rebellion toppled the communist rule and that caused a Soviet invasion. -
Berlin Wall Falls
The East German leader claimed he could restore order by letting the East Germans leave and then he opened the Berlin Wall. -
Reunification of Germany
Once Communism fell in East Germany, they wanted to reunite yet many people worried because of WWII. But the Chancellor of Germany assured they were committed to Democracy and human rights. -
August Coup P
The State Commitee demanded the Soviet President resign and then many tanks rolled into Moscow but citizens lost their fear in the party. -
Fall of USSR
The coup attempt had caused anger to rise against the USSR government, and on Christmas Day the Soviet President resigned and the USSR ceased to exist.
