    The Peter the Great

    Peter the Great was the ruler of the city call Tsardom in Russia. Therefore, as the ruler of Russia he decided that in order to compete with the rest of the world that Russia needed to build a navy. But he soon realize that as ruler of Russia that he so far behind on advancing Russia then other countries were. But the changes that he did make as ruler of Russia was that He changed the Russian year, end arranged marriages, simplified the Russian alphabet, etc.

    Empress Anna Ivanova

    Empress was the niece of Peter the Great she began her rule of Russia in 1730 after the death Peter II. Empress open the very first ballet school in Russia call the Imperial Ballet School.

    Marius Petipa

    Marius Petipa was a French ballet dancer, pedagogue and choreographer. Also, Marius was one of the most influential ballet dancer and choreographers in the history of ballet. He revived a number of different dances that were created by other choreographers, Marius also created The Nutcracker dance and The sleeping Beauty.

    Michel Fokine trained and graduated from the Imperial Ballet School. After Michel graduated from the Imperial Ballet School he was ask to join the Ballet Russes company were he was a Ballet master for the company. He was able to be giving the freedom to create the type of dances that he wanted to create.

    After Michel left the Ballet Russes company. He started worked all over Europe for a while and then left Russia in 1918 to go start a new life in America. He realized that he wasn't as successful in America as he was in Europe. But Michel did however set the foundation for American ballet.

    Anna Pavlova

    Anna Pavlova was a dancer for both the Imperial Russian Ballet and the Ballets Russes of Sergei Diaghilev. She only join the Russes Ballet company for a year until she decided to create her own ballet dance company. She left the Russian Ballet because Anna couldn't see eye to eye with Igor Stravinsky who was also part of the Ballet Russes. Anna end up passing away from pneumonia that required an operation during that era which she refused.

    Vaslav Nijinsky

    Vaslav Nijinsky was a ballet dancer and choreographer he was consider as the greatest male dancer in the early 20th century. Vaslav was part of the Ballet Ruesse company. But he eventually got fire from the company due to the fact that he wasn't wearing the proper costume on stage while he performing on stage. Vaslav dance career was cut short due to his mental health.

    Bronislava Nijinska

    Bronislava Nijinska was a ballet dancer, and a innovative choreographer. Bronislava was born into a family of dancers. Therefore her brother Vatsa eventually became a famous dancer. She also was part of the Ballet Ruesses for a while she was a dancer and a choreographer for the company until 1913 when she decided to leave the company for good.

The Classical ballet era was initiated as a response to the decline in popularity of ballet because audiences lost interest in the stories and the desire for escapism emphasized in Romantic ballets.

The Ballets Russes transformed the future of ballet by bringing dancers with great traditional training of ballet and putting a modern form of their traditional training of ballet. As well as ,bringing music design, and dance together into a cohesive whole to really enhance ballet dancing as a whole.
  • Afternoon of a Faun

    Afternoon of a Faun utilizes the ideas of the Ballet Russes with the many artists that contributed to the dance as a whole. Therefore, the music was composed by Debussy and the set design was done by Leon Bakst. Both the music and the steps and movements of the dance were based on a poem that was written by Stephane Mallarme. Overall the story of Afternoon of a Faun was about a young faun who meets several nymphs who he flirts with and chases them.

    The Rite of Spring was composed by Stravinsky, The Rite of Spring dance caused a lot of uproar simply because it was so dissonant and different. The Rite of Spring is about where a virgin maiden is chosen to appease the gods and is sacrificed to do so.
  • Les Noces

    Les Noces was composed by Stravinsky. Les Noces ballet dance is about a wedding that included five different parts of the dance. This include the village rituals, the benediction of the bride, the benediction of the groom, the bride leaving her parents home and the wedding feast.
