Underground Railroad (winter)

The Undreground Railroad was the path that Harriet Tubman took when she freed slaves and took them to the North. The South wasn't happy about the Underground Railroad because their slaves were getting taken away but the North was happy because there was more business and some people from the North wanted the slaves to be free.

Fugitive Slave Act

The Fugitive Slave Act stated that all slaves had to be returned the their owners. THe South liked the Fugitive Slave Act because their slaves were returing. The North was not happy about the Fugitive Slave Act and afterwards many Norhterners were abolitionists.

Uncle Tom's Cabin

Uncle Tom's Cabin was a book about anti-slavery. The North loved the book because it gave them a chance to find out what was going on in the South. The South absolutely hated the book because it told the North what was going on with the slaves.

Election of 1860

Nov 6, 1860

The Election of 1860 was viewed as a positive thing for the North because almost all of the North had voted for Lincoln (the candidate that won). The South didn't like Lincoln winning the election because he was a republican.

Confederacy Formed

Feb 4, 1861

The South liked the Confederacy forming because that was their new army. The North didn't like that the Confederacy formed because it meant more competition for the North.

Ft. Sumter Attacked

The North attacked Ft. Sumter in 1861 and the South didn't like being attacked so they fought back.

Bull Run (Manassas), !st Battle

The South was happy about the 1st Battle of Bull Run because they won. The North was upset because they didn't win and got hurt.

Bull Run (Manassas), 2nd Battle

Aug 28, 1862

In the 2nd Battle of Bull Run the South beat the North but both sides were very upset because they both lost a lot of people.

Antietam

THe battle of Antietam was the bloodiest battle in any wa ever. The South won this battle but still suffered from many casualties as well as the North.

Emancipation Proclomation

Some Southerners liked the Emancipation Proclomation and tohers didn't. Some Northerners hated the Emancipation Proclomation and some liked it.

13th Amendment

Jan 31, 1865

Some people in the North were against the 13th Amendment and some were for it. In the South many people didn't like the 13th Amendment.

Freedman's Bureau

The South hated Freedman's Bureau but the North liked it.
