Eva and Tom soon become great friends. Always frail, Eva’s health begins to decline rapidly, and on her deathbed she asks her father to free all his slaves. He makes plans to do so but is then killed, and the brutal Simon Legree, Tom’s new owner, has Tom whipped to death.

The battle of Fredericksburg occured during December 11 up to December 15 1862. This battle was fought out in North Virginia, Fredericksburg. This battle happened when General Ambrose Burnside was directing the army of the potomac with 123,000 men and General Robert E. Lee was directing the Confederate army with 78,000 men. This battle resulted in 12,500 Union men dying and 6,000 confederate men dying. On December 13 after the confedarates crossed over to the Union side.

The Battle of Chancellorsville was from April 30th to May 6th 1863, which was fought out in Spotsylvania, Virginia. This was victory to General E. Lee for the confederacy, fought against the Union army. Lee fought very aggressively with his troops and is known as the most tactical battle in history for the Civil War. This battle was also Jackson Stonewall’s last as a soldier shot him into the shoulder causing pneumonia and died later on.

Which was when the Union surrounded Vickburg to take full control by 35,000 men under Ulysses S. Grant. Meanwhile Confederate leader General John Pemberton, only had 18,000 troops. This battle concluded with the Union army winning.
