  • Battle of Fort Sumter

    In response to Lincoln's election as president seven southern states seceded from the Union. Early in the morning Confederate guns around the harbor open fire on Fort Sumter. Later that morning it caught fire and people evacuated. Robert Anderson the Commander surrenders and leaves. This battle started the Civil War which lasted the war lasted for 4 years.
  • Battle of Shiloh

    Battle of Shiloh
    The Confederates did a surprise attack on Union forces but they couldn't hold their positions and were forced back. Grant counterattacks and the Confederates slowly retreated. Lots of troops on both sides had no experience in battle. Men had pitched tents under peach trees when the surprise attack happened. All the peach trees were gone/disappeared after the battle. Confederates go back because they are out numbered which gives Grant a major victory.
  • Battle of Antietam

    Battle of Antietam
    The Union Army attacked the Confederates army on the left flank. The confederates were outnumbered but held their ground. Robert E. Lee had his entire army engaged in the battle. The battle took place in the cornfields and so many men had died. The North claimed victory and forced Lee to retreat to Virginia
  • Battle of Gettysburg

    Battle of Gettysburg
    Lee gains confidence and decides to go and invade the North. The forces collided at the crossroads town of Gettysburg. Lee attacks the Federals but failed to place the defenders. Lee's second invasion failed. Lee had waited for a Union counterattack but it didn't happen and then Confederate general withdraws. In the end both sides resulted in heavy casualties.

    The Surrender
    The Battle of Appomattox Court House lasted only a few hours which finally and then the Civil War came to an end. They had met and exchanged personal inquiries. Grant arrived in mud splattered field uniform while Lee was dressed all nice with a complete clean uniform. Robert E. Lee surrenders to Ulysses S. Grant which finally ends the Civil War. Officers would keep their side arms, while Lee's starving men would be given rations.
  • Lincoln's Death

    Lincoln's Death
    Lincoln was assassinated while he was at Ford's Theater. John Booth which is the killer found out that Lincoln would be at the theater that night so he decided to make his move. Lincoln was in the Presidential Box and was shot in the head. He was taken to Peterson House and died the next morning. He was killed a few days after the surrender which ended the Civil War.
