Siege of Vicksburg

Fort Wagner

The 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry was a Union regiment of free African American men that attempted to capture the fort. More than 116 men were killed in the battle and the Union forces failed to capture the fort.

Battle of Appomattox

The battle that happened at Appomattox ended up having Confederate General Robert E. Lee surrender to Union General Ulysses S. Grant. Even though the battle only lasted a few hours, it effectively ended the Civil War.
