John Brown's raid on Harpers ferry

Oct 16, 1859

John Brown leads raid against federal armory. Later found guilty of treason and murder.

Election of 1860

Nov 5, 1860

Abraham Lincoln elected after speaking strongly against slavery.

Confederate states formed

Feb 8, 1861

States seperated from the Union and made confederate states of america

Civil war begins

Apr 12, 1861

Began after Lincoln sent supplies to Fort Sumter

Apr 21, 1861

Fort Sumter under fire, if Lincoln does send supplies then they will fire, if he doesn't then they'll have to surrender

Set war conditions. If the Union won the slaves would be set free.

Shermans march to sea

Nov 15, 1864

Sherman destroyed railroads and cut through the south to the gulf of Mexico. Leaving nothing but dust behind.

General Lee surrendered after Grant wins battle in Richmond
