During the Battle of Bull Run the Northern's goal was to invade Virginia and take confederate capital Richmond because they wanted to speed thing up. It was significant because the Confederate were successful and they changed the way North saw the war. Also Lincoln sends request for 500,000 soilders for 3 years. -
Battle of Antietam
In the Battle of Antietam Lee was forced to withdraw into Virginia and McClellan didn't follow Lee which could have finished off the Confederates force therefore Lincoln was mad and fired McClellan. This is significant because it was the first major win for the North and also because Lincoln issues the Emancipation Proclamation. -
Battle of Fredericksburg
In the Battle of Fredericksburg McLellan was replaced by General Burnside and after the loss at Antietam, Lee moved his army back into virginia. This is significant because Burnside decides to attack to try and take Richmond and the Confederates won . -
Emancipation Proclamation
During the Emancipation Proclamation Lincoln wasn't sure if he should free the slaves. Also some unions opposed . This is significant because after 2 years of war he realizes that freeing slaves would weaken the south therefore he freed all the slaves in confederate states. -
Battle of Vicksburg
In the Battle of Vicksbrug Grand won important battles/victories also Vicksburg was the last stronghold of the Confederates on the Mississippi River. This is significant because the Anaconda plan was successful and the union got control of the Mississippi River. -
Battle of Gettysburg
The Battle of Gettysbug was fought on rocky hills and fields around Gettysburg for 3 days. Around 23,000 union troops died and around 28,000 confederate troops died. This was significant because it was the last time Lee and Confederacy ever invaded North. Also 1/3 Lee's army was killed therefore he retreated to Virginia. -

In the 54th Massachusetts Fight african american men were willing to fight in the war. This is significant because it was the first war where African American could have joined and fought. -

In the Gettysburg Address Lincoln went to Gettysburg to recognize/dedicate all 3,500 soilders that died. This was significant because it was one of the most famous speeches of all time. -

In Sherman's March to the sea a lot happend, troops tore up rail lines, destroyed crops and burned an looted towns. This is significant because civilians and homes were burned in the process they left a lot of destruction. -
13th Amendment Passed
In the 13th Amendment Lincoln see's victory as a clear sign to end slavery permanently with a Constitutional Amendment. This is significant because slavey was abolished and it prohibited involuntary servitude. -
Surrender at Appomattox Courthouse
At the surrender at Appomattox Courthouse Lee and Grant met in Virginia at a town called Appomattoc Courthouse which is where then Lee surrendered which led to the end of Civil War. This is significant because when he surrendered Grant was generour enough to allow no jail time for the officers and Lee included, also allowing them to keep their horses and weapons.
