The Union won and now they have control over the Mississippi River. This meants that the South had no control of the ports and could not ship any goods by the river.

    Grant contiued his siege until Lee and the Confederates withdrew, so the Union moved towards RIchmond. Jefferson heard that the Confederates were coming and started to dastroy papers, documents, weapons, and then fled. Lincoln and his son saw the fall of Richmond and when they went into the capitol sat in Jafferson's chair and just stared off into the distance. Lee fought till the end but eventually surrendered to Grant.
