    this gave the confederate army a base and they won a battle.

    The south was blocaded from the rest of the country by soldiers and ships to try to weaken the economy of the south and by that the north could make them surrender.

    June 25- july 1, 1862
    Lee’s forces attacked the Union at Mechanicsville. The union won but McClellan ordered a retreat to Gains’ Mill. Confederate forced broke union lines the next day. Lee's sucess prolonged the war.

    Lee drives his troops into a bigger stronger enemy and defeats them giving them hope and confidence to keep fightiing

    July 1-3 1863 the tide turns and the confederates are defeated. It began as a skirmish but by its end involved 160,000 Americans whitch set back both sides of the war and crushed the sperits of both sides

    Grant takes the town of Vicksberg thus controlling the river thus ncutting the confederacy in two making it hard to set a full atack on a city or have all of the confederate army meet to gather stratagee

    Chattanooga was a major railway jungtion Bagg in comand of the confederates marched up to grant and the union and a battle broke out and Bagg was forced to retreat thus having the union march straight from georgia to the sea sepperating the confederacy again making it impoasible to unite confederate troops
