Northwest Ordiance
The Northwest Ordinance was letting new states into the Union. All new states were going to be on equal terms with the original 13 colonies. The Northwest banned slavery in the territory. -

This was created during Andrew Jackson's, Southers wanted to ensure they were represented by Democrats. But South Carolina became very united but closeting themselves from the country. -
Annexation of Texas
The Annexation of Texas was when Texas seceded from Mexico. Texas left Mexico because Mexico was abolishing slavery. The Union annexes Texas became a southern state because Texas supported slavery. -
Oregon Territory
The Oregon Treaty was whenever the west was occupied by Britain but the Union wanted to colonize it. The Union couldn't have afforded war so they came up with a treaty. -
Mexican Cession
The Mexican Cession was whenever the Union gained land from Mexico. This fulfilled Manifest Destiny. The Mexican Cession Westward Expansion. -
Compromise of 1850
The Compromise of 1850 made California into a free state. But this questioned of Texas was going to be a slave state especially since Texas was under the Mason Dixion Line. Since California became a free state then the government had to please the south, then they decided to create the Fugitive slave law. Even though the Compromise of 1850 was supposed to fix things it arose a lot of conflicts. -
Kansas-Nebraska Act
This was a toss-up because nobody knew if this should be a slave state of a free state. Stephen Douglas determined popular sovereignty to decide if it is a free state or not.
But this caused a lot of conflicts which caused things to go violent, this was known as Bleeding Kansas. -
Battle of Bull Run
Battle of Bull Run was the first major battle of the Civil War. The Confederacy went to Virginia. The Union troops had retreated back to Washington D.C. -
Battle of Fort Sumter
Fort Sumter began on April 12, 1861. This was the first battle of the Civil War. Economic resources depended on the resources of the north and south. A lot of the strategies were dependent on geographic factors. -
Battle of Antietam
The Battle of Antietam was one of the bloodiest battles of the Civil War. This was one of the first battles on the Union's soil. -
Battle of Gettysburg
The Battle of Gettysburg was another win for the Union. At first, the confederacy was starting to win but throughout the night the Union took advantage of the confederacy during the night. Lee ended up retreating because the majority of his men were dead or injured. This was the second and last attempt of the south trying to invade the north. -
Presidential Reconstruction
The Presidential Reconstruction had 10% plan which was created by Lincoln. Before Lincoln's association, he said 10% of voters from the south from the 1860 election needed to wear oath. They promised to free the slaves. This helped the south become apart of the Union. -
Battle of Vicksburg
The Battle of Vicksburg was a win for the Union. The south ended up surrendering. This caused the confederacy to split into two, which meant the Union had control of the Mississipi River. This was a turning point in the Western theatre. -
Gettysburg Address
Abraham Lincoln address the struggles of the Civil War. During his speech, he states "all men are created equal." The statement goes back to the Declaration of Independence. -
Emancipation Proclamation
This did not free the slaves but this allowed African Americans to be apart of the Union. -
Sheman's March to Sea
The Sherman's March to Sea was when the troops marched from Atlanta to Savannah which brought destruction. While marching they burned farms and plantations. -
13th Amendment Passed
The 13th Amendment abolished slavery. The 13th Amendment let former slaves rejoin their families. -
14th Amendment Passed
The 14th Amendment allowed citizenship. Everyone had fair equal protection under the law. This cannot a person's liberty, life, or property. -
15th Amendment
The 15th Amendment gave all men the right to vote. The 15th Amendment didn't allow women to vote. But you had to prove you could vote. -
Congressional Reconstruction
The Congressional Reconstruction wanted to guarantee the rights and freedom of African Americans. They wanted to ensure the south wasn't going to go back to their old ways. -
Plessy V. Ferguson
The Plessy Vs Ferguson was separate but equal. The Court didn't rule out in Ferguson's favor. This made segregation legal.
