    In the election of 1860 Abraham Lincoln won the election over John Breckinridge, and John Bell. Lincoln got a 40% of the popular vote, and also won the majority of the electoral votes. As soon Lincoln was put into office the south tried to secede from the north but Lincoln denied all requests(History).

    South Carolina became the first state to secede from the federal Union in December 20, 1860. They decided to depart from the Untied states because when Lincoln won the election of 1860 it set a cry throughout the southern slave holding states. The cry was about how Lincoln was going to abolish slavery. So, when South Carolina seceded for the U.S. federal government it allowed them to not obey any laws pasted by the senate(WhiteHouse).

    Monitor and Merrimack
    The ships Monitor and Merrimack were in use during the American Civil War. The Monitor was owned by the Union and the Merrimack was owned by the Confederacy. They were the first ironclad worships of history. The Confederate army tried to use the Merrimack to help break through the Union blockade in southern ports like Norfolk and Richmond, Virginia. Once the two ships went headed to head in a battle the Monitor came out in victory for the Union(History).

    The first battle of Bull Run Took place in Manassas Junction, Virginia on July 21, 1861. It was the first major land battle of the American Civil War. The Unions armies were lead by General Irvin McDowell and General Robert Patterson. The Confederate armies were lead by General P.G.T. Beauregard and General Joseph E. Johnston. At the end of the battle there were about 3,000 Union soldiers dead, and another 1,750 confederate soldiers dead(History).

    The battle of Shiloh was a victory for the Union army on April 6, 1862-April 7, 1862. The battle took place in Pittsburg Landing, Tennessee. The battle of Shiloh stooped the Confederacy’s hope the stopping the Union army before it every reached Mississippi, and made it almost impossible for the confederate army to move into the West(BattleFields).

    The second battle of Bull Run took place from August 28, 1862-August 30, 1862 in northern Virginia. At the battle the Confederate took heavy casualties up to 9,000 but, despite the heavy casualties General Robert E. Lee still managed to win the battle. General John Pope had over 70,000 union soldiers but still was defeated by the much smaller confederate forces(History).

    The Battle of Antietam, also know as the Battle of Sharpsburg was fought on September 17, 1862. The Union army came out with the victory and stopped the Confederate army in the invasion of Maryland. But, the battle was not fought with out loses over 12,400 Union men had died and more than 10,700 confederate soldiers had died. The Battle of Antietam was the bloodiest one day battle of the American Civil War(BattleFields).

    President Abraham Lincoln up the Emancipation Proclamation into place January 1, 1863. At this time America was entering it’s third year of the civil war and Lincoln knew that he had to do something to help abolish slavery. The proclamation said the any people held as slaves within slave holding states must be freed. But, the proclamation only work in rebel controlled lands. Any place that was within the Union territory and owned slaves were allowed to keep slaves form their freedom(Articles).

Lee never invaded the Northern Territory again, and it maker the down fail of the American Civil War.The battle of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania lasted from the 1st to the 3rd of July in 1863(Battlefield).

    At a show, Abraham Lincoln was assassinated by john Wilkes Booht, and actor and public Confederate supporter. He killed Lincoln after a failed kidnapping attempt. He shot the president with a .44 caliber Derringer pistol (History).
