    April 12 - 14, 1861 Confederate attacks Fort Sumter with an army of 500 men. The Union had only 80 soldiers. Anderson did not return the fire for the first two hours. The fort's supply of ammunition was not suited for an equal fight and Anderson lacked fuses for his exploding shells. Neither side suffered casualties and it was a Confederate victory.

Union forces stoped the Confederate invasion of New Mexico Territory when they turned the rebels back to Glorieta Pass.The Union troops burned the rebel's supply train,causing them to retreat back to Texas.

A storm came and threatened to cut the two bridge links between the union army. Johnston attcked one of McClellans corps with a promsing assult. They hammered the Federal corps from the sides. The Rebels won and the yankees lost. Rebels 6000 causilitys and Yankees 5000.

Lee believed that Pope and McCellan's army would be weak and demoralized in Washington D.C.

November 23-24th, the Union captured Orchard Knob and Lookout Mountain. November 25th, the Union Armies took down the Confederates positoin on Missionary Ridge.

Once fighting began federal troops used the ravine to overcome Confederate trroops who soon surrendered. It would be 291 days before Americans had Petersburg again.

The union fired towards the right flank first. Union had success and and ended it with a vicotry.
