    The Compromise of 1850 was a bundle of resolutions purposed by Henry Clay. Those resolutions were: make California a free state, unrestricted slavery in the rest of the western territories, deny Texas's claim to most New Mexico territory, assume preannexation of Texas's debt, endorse slavery in DC, abolish slave trade across DC boundaries, enlist a more effective fugitive slave act, deny congress's right to involve themselves in slave trade

    The Fugitive Slave Act was an Act that allowed runaway slaves to be captured and brought back to their masters. This influenced sectionalism to a great extent. Numerous abolitionists were outraged and tried to repeal it because it favored the south.

    Uncle Toms Cabin
    Uncle Toms Cabin was a book that supported the abolition of slavery. It was about slave owners who raped enslaved women, beat the workers, and treated them like animals. This increased sectionalism considering it increased the number of abolitionists to fight against slavery and it's immoral values.

    "Bleeding Kansas"
    After things were settled with the Kansas-Nebraska Act, all agreed Nebraska was going to be a free state. However, there was an issue with Kansas, not all agreed on slavery. Thus began Kansas's own civil war in the state. Then in 1856 the "sack of Lawrence" began. A newspaper press was destroyed, a free state governors home was burnt down, and the Free State Hotel was demolished. This only supported sectionalism in the North and South which would lead to the civil war.

    The Kansas Nebraska act was an act passed about slaver above the 36 30 line. It gave Kansas and Nebraska the right to decide on slavery due to popular sovereignty. This caused major issues considering this brought upon slavery to the North West of the United States.
  • Harper''s Ferry/John Brown

    Harper''s Ferry/John Brown
    John Brown, an abolitionist, had a plan to rescues the slaves in Harper's Ferry in western Virginia to set up a safe heaven for slaves. While he did attack the stronghold by surprise. It ended up being a major downfall. Soon enough he was surrounded by the militia of townspeople and was trapped in the barn. Soon enough the stronghold was broken into and him and his sons were killed. This was also a major influence in the war because is was one of the first real battles.
  • Election of 1860

    Election of 1860
    In 1860 Lincoln was elected as the Republican President of the US. Winning both the electoral college and the popular vote by an extreme amount in the north but not so well in the south. The South as you can tell was not happy about this and began to Secede from the Union. On February 1st 1861 Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, and Texas withdrew. On April 12th 1861, the civil war began.
