General Burnside of the Union Army tried to take Richmond. The Union was defeated because of Confederate artillery on Marye’s Height’s. The Union attacked the foot of Marye’s Heights but the Confederates held them off.

General Joseph Hooker took command of the Union Army after Burnside’s failure. The Confederates won because Lee of the Confederates blocked the Union Advance on the way to Chancellorsville while Jackson of the South attacked his flank and defeated the Union.
