licoln wins a very close four way race. he does not win the popular vote he does however get the most electoral votes. -
First cesesion
south carolina is the first state to secede. -
trigger of the war
maj. Robert Anderson and 85 men decided to move to fort sumter for their safety. The fort is located in the middle of the charlestown harbour. The confederate Brig. Gen. P.G.T. Beauregard demand the surrender of the fort. But Anderson refused. The next morning the confederates started to fire on the fort. And the civil war began. -
Battle of the Bull Run
This is the first major engagement of the civil war. this took place manassas on the bridge over bull run. the south beat the north in this battle. -
battle of shiloh
General grant was surprised there by the south. in the battle there was the most casualties of any american war. -
Emancipation proclimation
This frees all slaves in the places under union control. This officialy makes the civil war a war oer slavery. It also orders the enlistmenr of black people. -
gettysberg
The union beat the south, and stopped them from going any further. This was the farthest point that the confederates went. -
control of vicksburg
general grant takes control of vicksburg which splits the confederates in half -
Draft riots
after the govrnment anounces they wil be drafting riots break out. these riots break out in many states and in newyork about 120 poeple were killed. -
End of the civil war
At the appomattox courthouse on April 9th, 1865 the war ended. General Ulysses S. Grant met with General Robert E. Lee. he gave him two choices. one:everyone dies. two: surrender on behalf of the entire south. Robert E. Lee. surrendered and the war was over. -
Assasination of Lincoln
Lincoln went out to a show in D.C. The guard outside the booth fell asleep or was distracted. Booth came and shot lcoln from point blank. He was from the csa and beleived that the south should still fight.
