He was the 24th govenor of New Jersey. He was a general in the Army. His nickname was "Little Mac" and he was on the union side. -
Battle of Shiloh/Pittsburg landing
Fought in Southern Tennesee. Union Army under General Ulysses S. Grant. Union Army had moved to the Tennessee River, deep into Tennessee. The Confederate Army under Generals Albert Sidney Johnston, and P.G.T Bureaguard, launched a surprise attack on Grant and the Union Army. -
Battle of 2nd Bull Run/ Manassas
Confederate General Robert E. Lee against Union Major General John Pope. Fought on the same ground as the 1st Battle of Bull Run. Confederate Union won. -
Battle of Antietam/ Sharpsburg
Fought near Sharpsburg and Antietam Creek. As part of the Maryland campaign, which was the first major battle of the Civil War. Took place on a union solider. -
Battle of Fredericksburg
Fought on Spotsylavaina County and Fredricksburg Virgina. Between Ambrose E. Burnside from the Union side, and Robert E. Lee from the Confederate side. There were 1,892 people killed, 13,716 wounded, and 2,422 captured/missing. -
Emancipation Proclamation issued
It proclaimed that the freedom of slaves in 10 states than in Rebellion, appliying to 3.1 million of the 4 million slaves in the US at that time. It freed 50,000 slaves with all the rest freed as the Union armies advanced. -
Battle of Chancellorsville/death of Stonewall Jackson
On Sunday May 10, 1863, Confederate Lieutenant General Thomas Johnathan Jackson passed away. When he had not long to live he said "It is the Lord's Day. My wish is fulfilled. I have always desired to die on Sunday." -
