    The battle of the Hampton Roads was part of a Confederate effort to break the Uion blockade of Southern ports including Norfolk and Richmond, Virginia that have been imposed at the start of the war. At 8 in the morning, Virginia opened fire on Minnesota. Both crews lacked training and the firing was ineffective. The Confederates evacuated Norfolk and the Union won the battle.

    The battle of Shiloh was the second great engagement of the American Civil War. In February, Union General Ulysses S. Grant had taken Fort Henry on the Tennessee River and Fort Donelson on the Cumberland. The Confederates had acknowledged the importance of these forts by abandoning their strong position at Columbus, Kentucky and by evacuating Nashville.

    Lincoln was assassinated when he went to a theatre. He was shot by John Wilks Booth. They couldn't do anything to help Lincoln, so they let him bleed out and he died the next morning.
